The Northern Echo

From 8th – 12th April 2013 I did work experience at The Northern Echo in Durham.

The first morning, Margaret Thatcher died. It was a whirlwind week of drama and fascinating insights into the history and culture of the North East (the highlight being a couple who had worked in the mines and had kept a bottle of champagne on ice for the day that Thatcher died).

Thatcher intrigue aside, the placement taught me a lot about regional papers, particularly things like court reporting and local government.
